Today I was on a call with a client and we were discussing letting go of old beliefs that have been around since High School. She said it always felt like letting go of a handkerchief and watching it get blown away. But that perspective did not feel good to her. It was not empowering. In that perspective, letting go is passive. But as we talked more, she connected letting go to Elsa from Frozen and I thought this was the perfect comparison.
When Elsa “let go” she stepped into being who she actually was. She let go of the versions of herself others defined for her. She stopped hating and judging herself and owned who she was. That is when she could truly connect with everyone around her.
What if “letting go” is actually active? What if instead of shedding a part of yourself you actually just step into more of who you are? What if the new belief systems you create are loud and boisterous – not passive and released?
What if letting go is actually an action that you take to become more of who you are? What if it’s not about shedding but a claiming?
In what area of your life would this perspective of letting go serve you?
