A few years ago a client of mine told me that she picks out a word to be the theme for each year. Something she can come back to time and time again as her own personal North Star.

I fell in love with that idea and have adopted it into my own coaching practice when discussing resolutions/intentions with my clients. And while I believe resolutions can change (for example, you resolve to run a marathon this year, sign up for it, commit to training for it, but you are miserable, hate it, and can barley get yourself to do it……..that one should be rethought) I do not believe the word should change. You picked the word for a reason. There is truth behind the word for you – a truth that was very present at the end of the year.

What is your word for 2020?

Mine is Integrity. I used to work with another Life Coaching company and they defined Personal Integrity as showing up for yourself and doing what you said you would do.  That is the energy I will bring into 2020. I will do what I said I would do, manage the emotions I need to manage, and show up as the person I want to be in a way that felt hard in 2019 (thanks, Anxiety!)
